The Parry Sound Optimist Novice hockey team was in a mini tournament on Friday and Saturday in Huntsville. On Friday the team was down by three with less than six minutes left when Ryne Phillips scored two goals and Cameron Herr scored one to make it a 44 tie to end the game against West Ferris.The McNabb Bantam AE's were in action on Sunday as they traveled to Haliburton to take on the Storm. Parry Sound jumped out to an early 10 lead on a great deflection by Bruce Oldham off a shot taken Jordan Lamers. By the end of the first the Storm had come back and taken a 21 lead. The Storm went up 31 early in the second but womens north face jackets clearance another goal scored by Bruce Oldham assisted by Mitchell Massier and Ashley Beaumont brought the Shamrocks back to with in one. The Storm took a 52 lead into the 3rd. A short bench proved to be the difference as the Shamrocks ran out of steam and the Storm scored four unanswered goals to beat the Shamrocks 92. They travelled to Bracebridge to take on the Bears Friday and again on Sunday afternoon. The Parry Sound club lost both games in a valiant effort. Goal scorers were Carson Lacey with two goals, Connor McDougall, Mitchell Quathamer and clearance north face Connor Scott adding one each. Assists to Dylan Lamers with two, single assists to Liam Donevan, Collin Badger, Austin Salerno and Connor McLeod. On Saturday night the Parry Sound club travelled to Minden to face the Haliburton Highland Storm. Parry Sound downed the Storm 51. Dylan Lamers scored twice, with Scott, McLeod and Donevan picking up one each. Assists to Scott with two, Adam Logan, Scott Johnson, Winston Badger, Donevan, Lacey and McDougall each had one. The Peewees lost their first game to East Nipissing 54 on Friday but rebounded to beat West Nipissing 31 on Saturday morning. But the Peewees would fail to reach the semifinals with a 30 loss to Midland on Saturday afternoon. The Bantams won their Friday night game 81 over West Nipissing then shut out Fort Erie 50 on Saturday morning. They then tied Acton 00 Saturday afternoon to get them to the semifinals where they faced Innisfil on Sunday morning. They got past Innisfil to face Belleville for the championship. The Bantams fell one goal short of winning the tournament as they lost to Belleville 10.
